Festivals that shape the calendar
Blobfest celebrates the 1958 film The Blob, which was filmed at the Colonial Theatre. The three-day July event, with screenings, a free street fair and races, draws fans from well outside the region.
The Dogwood Festival, presented by the Phoenixville Jaycees Foundation, runs over several days each May with a midway, nightly bandshell music and a parade, centered around Reeves Park on 3rd Avenue.
The Firebird Festival is a free December celebration built around the burning of a 20-foot wooden phoenix, reflecting the town's name and creative community. It moved to Reservoir Park in 2025.
Add in Main Street dining, breweries and frequent block parties and you have a borough that needs temporary restrooms on a regular basis.
Getting a borough event approved
Phoenixville uses a Temporary Community Event and Borough Services Request Application. Key points from the borough's process:
- Events typically expected to draw more than 100 people need this Temporary Community Event permit.
- Block parties follow their own rules on the same borough page.
- Events on private property that still need barricades or police services go through a separate borough request.
- Fees, deadlines and insurance requirements are set out in the current application, so read it closely before you submit.
Apply early. Borough review takes time, and street closures need to be coordinated with neighbors and businesses. Mark restroom locations on your plan so they stay clear of sidewalks and emergency routes.
Construction and home projects
Chester County continues to see residential construction and redevelopment, including projects around Phoenixville's former industrial sites. One unit per 10 workers with weekly service is the standard starting point. Home renovations that take bathrooms out of service also bring in temporary units for a few weeks at a time.
Placement in a tight downtown
Phoenixville's streets and lots can be narrow. Before delivery:
- Measure the space. A standard unit needs roughly a 4 x 4 ft footprint plus clearance for the door.
- Confirm the truck can reach the spot, or that the provider can wheel units in.
- Keep units off sidewalks unless your approval allows it.
- For trailers, check for level ground and power.
Seasons
Spring and summer are peak months for parties and festivals, but Phoenixville's winter Firebird Festival is a reminder that events don't stop in December. Cold-weather rentals need winterized units, and outdoor events in winter should keep restrooms well lit.
How many and how much
For a four-hour event, plan on about one unit per 50 guests, more if alcohol is served. Include accessible units at public events, following Access Board guidance of at least 5% of units per cluster.
Typical Chester County pricing:
- Standard event unit: about $110–$250
- ADA or deluxe unit: about $160–$350
- Restroom trailer for a weekend: often $1,100–$3,200 or more
- Construction unit, monthly: roughly $130–$250
