Aurora projects and events that need restrooms
Aurora's demand is a mix of public events and steady building activity.
- Downtown and riverfront events – concerts, festivals, parades and markets along the Fox River draw crowds that outnumber the available permanent restrooms.
- Park events and sports – youth tournaments, races and park district events across the city.
- Residential and commercial construction – the growth corridors toward the west and south side keep crews working through most of the year.
- Private celebrations – graduation parties, quinceañeras, backyard weddings and family reunions.
The City of Aurora special event process
Aurora runs its special event permits through an online system and sorts applications into tiers based on size and impact. The largest tier, which includes events on city streets or right-of-way, multi-day events and events with more than 1,000 attendees per day, must be submitted 90 days before the event. Smaller events have shorter deadlines.
You will need an account with the city to apply. After submission and initial review, a small non-refundable processing fee is invoiced, and organizers may also pay a deposit toward estimated city services and equipment ahead of the event.
Restrooms should appear on your site plan. Even if the city does not dictate a specific number for your event, reviewers will look for adequate, accessible restrooms in a sensible location. For questions about events on city property, contact the city's community events team.
Note that North Aurora, Montgomery and Oswego are separate municipalities with their own permit processes.
Seasons in the Fox Valley
Outdoor events in Aurora mostly run from May through September, peaking in June and July. Late summer thunderstorms can soak grassy park sites, so leave a firm path for the delivery truck.
Winter construction rentals are common. Units get winterizing treatment, and snow needs to be cleared around them for servicing.
Planning by the numbers
Use one standard unit per 50 guests for an event of about four hours as your baseline, then adjust:
- Longer events: add roughly one unit per 50 guests for each additional few hours
- Alcohol served: add about 20–30%
- Children and families: add capacity, and consider a unit with a baby-changing station
- Food service: add hand-wash stations
For job sites, plan one unit per 10 workers with weekly service.
Accessibility
For public events, include accessible units. A sound target is the Access Board guidance of at least 5% of units per cluster, which in practice means at least one accessible unit in every restroom bank. Place them on pavement or firm, level ground close to the main activity.
Typical Aurora pricing
Prices in the Chicago suburbs vary with season and distance, but rough ranges are:
- Standard event unit: around $110–$250
- ADA or deluxe flushable unit: about $160–$350
- Hand-wash station: about $75–$150
- Restroom trailer, weekend rental: typically $1,000–$3,200 or more
- Monthly construction unit: about $125–$250
Ask whether the price covers delivery, pickup, servicing and any fuel or environmental fees.
